Philip Torre, baritone, is a gifted singer with a sonorous timbre and masculine presence who has generated great attention from audiences throughout the U.S. and abroad. He has appeared on the stages of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, PORTopera, Manitoba Opera among others. On the concert stage, he has appeared as a featured soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic, Chicago Sinfonietta, Grant Park Music Festival, The Bellingham Music Festival (WA), New York City Opera’s VOX Festival of New Music, and the De Vive Voix Festival d’Art Lyrique, France.

Philip received his advanced professional training from Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center, and the Pittsburgh Opera Center at Duquesne. He holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He has studied voice with world-renown mezzo soprano, Dolora Zajick as well as Ted Puffer, Ron Raines and Mark Oswald of the Metropolitan Opera.

As a private voice instructor, Philip is experienced in teaching students of all levels and styles, and all ages. His passion for teaching is evident in his patient enthusiasm and his technique has its roots in healthy, Italianate, bel canto style, which he believes to be the basis of all great singing in any genre.
